[edit] User Authorization
The System provides several levels of user authority; some users have "view only" authority, while other may be assigned the capability to add, edit and delete data in the system. To become authorized to use the system, contact the Data Administrator in the Pipeline's Marketing Department.
[edit] User ID and Password
Your user ID is unique to you and provides access to Navigates™. The initial randomly-generated password may be changed after you log into the system. For more on changing your password, please refer to Changing Password.
| NOTE: Your password should be a word that is meaningful to you, but that cannot be easily guessed by someone attempting unauthorized use of the system. It is best to set up a password that contains both upper- and lowercase letters as well as numbers. In addition, to protect your data against unauthorized access, do not disclose your user ID and password to anyone. |
[edit] Login Procedure
Remember that your user ID and password are case-sensitive, so be sure to enter all upper- and lowercase letters correctly. The astericks will appear as you type your password.
After the system verifies your input, an Asset and BA Selection Screen will appear.
Select your Asset and BA from the drop-down list and clik [Ok].
[edit] System Features
The Navigates™ system is interactive, which means that you operate it by selecting options from menus and using buttons that you see on the screen. Below are some guidelines to help you maneuver through the system:
[edit] Field Conventions
Below are descriptions of the most common field types in the system:
| Fields with white backgrounds are editable, i.e. you may enter or modify data in them. | |
| Fields with gray backgrounds are noneditable. | |
| Fields followed by an arrow are drop-down fields. They contain pick lists from which you may select an entry. | |
| Fields followed by an ellipsis are lookup fields. Clicking the ellipsis will bring a subsidiary screen from which you can make a selection of data. | |
| Fields followed by a calendar icon are date fields. You have an option of entering the date manually or by using the calendar (click the calendar icon to make your selection). | |
| Required fields are marked with a red dot in the lower right corner. |
[edit] System Messages
| Blank System Message Area. | |
| If you wish to clear the messages, click the eraser button. Note, however, that clearing error messages will not fix the problem that caused the error. You will have to resolve the issue before proceeding. | |
| If you need to copy all of the messages from the screen, click the Copy Button. |
| A message in blue indicates that the system was able to perform user's actions. | |
| A message in olive indicates a warning; the user may continue with their actions. | |
| A message in red indicates an error; the user may not continue with their actions until the error is adressed. |
[edit] Exiting the System
When you have finished your session, you should exit Navigates™ . For security reasons, do not leave your PC unattended while you are still logged onto the system. To exit the system, complete either a fast or a slow exit procedure described below. The slow exit procedure is recommended for system stability.
[edit] Slow Exit
Select Customer Activities -> Exit to exit the system. A pop-up screen will appear prompting you to confirm your exit. Click [Yes].
[edit] Fast Exit
From anywhere in the system, click the X sign in the uppermost corner. The Navigates™ window will be closed.
